I regularly see improvements in people's mood when they come for their ukulele lessons, people report to me increased happiness and say that playing ukulele helps them to de-stress. Some people in my groups play to keep their hands busy and to relieve arthritis. I know from personal experience that when you focus on playing it shifts your attention away from anxious thoughts or worries and this can be very useful. So, it seems that playing an instrument is really good for you!
